In these developmental days, we read books with our pups. Not only is this a great exercise for our children, but studies have show that reading to pets may help keep them calm and less anxious!
In our program, we have found that this activity is beneficial on so many levels!
First, pups get a different type of interaction through this exercise. When they are with their siblings, the day is usually full of activity and stimulation. This exercise provides them with a totally different form of stimuli. They especially enjoy the quality one-on-one time from these reading sessions, which also helps them build appropriate relationships within the human world.
Second, pups are being socialized to enjoy the passive company of their working humans. Those who may work from home or have children that must set aside time for homework need to have a pup that can respect this work time. They need to understand that their humans can't always take them for walks or play ball with them. With continuous activities like this, pup learn that resting alongside their humans can also bring them joy.
Studies have proven that the cadence that comes from out-loud-reading can have a calming effect on both humans and pets alike. This helps keep anxiety at bay!
We highly encourage families to continue to find ways to have some quiet one-on-one time with their pups! The benefits are invaluable.
