Are Goldendoodles good family pets?

Goldendoodles carry a lot of qualities that make them AMAZING family pets. Goldendoodles inherit the best of both worlds when it comes to their genetics and temperaments.  They have the devotion and loyalty of Golden Retriever ancestors, constantly eager and motivated to please their family.  They also carry the legendary Poodle intelligence, so they are quick learners and easier to train.

Goldendoodles are the happiest when they are with their family.  Goldendoodles need regular exercise and love to have family play time, go for walks around the neighborhood, or take trips to the park.  When left alone for too long, Goldendoodles can develop anxiety because they deeply miss their family.

Goldendoodles are a great choice for homes that already have furry family members.  They typically adapt very well when they have other pets as friends, and playtime with their furry friend/sibling can help expel some of their energy and anxiety when the family is gone.

Goldendoodles are also ideal for many people that suffer from pet allergies due to their no-to-very-low shedding coats.  No dog is completely hypoallergenic, but families who have suffered from pet allergies often do better with the Goldendoodle.

Although we do not provide service or therapy dogs, Goldendoodles have also been known to be perfect companions for the sick, disabled, elderly, or children with special needs.  .

What is the difference between an F1, F1B, and F1BB Goldendoodle? What generation do you breed?

Simply put, the difference in these crossbreeds is the ratio of Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle.

  • An F1 (or first generation Goldendoodle) is the puppy of a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle.  They are 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Poodle.  They typically have a low to no shed coat with straight to wavy hair.

  • An F1B is the puppy of an F1 Goldendoodle and a Standard Poodle.  They are 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever.  They typically have low to no shed coats with wavy to curly hair.

  • An F1BB Goldendoodle is the puppy of an F1B Goldendoodle and a Standard Poodle.  They are 88% Poodle and 12% Golden Retriever.  They typically have no shed coats with wavy to curly hair.

All of our parents are F1B Goldendoodles.  The puppies are considered "Multi-generational" since they are not part of the first generations of cross-breeding.  However, they have the same genetic makeup of their F1B parents.

Why do  Goldendoodles have different coat colors and types?

20230108_153023.jpg

Because Goldendoodles are mixed with the Poodle, they come in many gorgeous and unique colors!  The AKC officially recognizes three colors for the Golden Retriever: Dark Golden, Golden, and Light Golden.  On the other hand, the AKC recognizes seven different types of Poodle colors: Apricot, Blue, Silver, Grey, Brown, Cream, and Cafe-au-lait.

Mixing the Golden Retriever and Poodle leads to several possible coat colors. The apricot Goldendoodle is one of the more sought after colors of the Goldendoodles.    The apricot coats do tend to lighten over time and can oftentimes be confused with a tan or cream Goldendoodle.  The red Goldendoodle is another highly sought-after coat colors; the red mahogany color is the brightest of all.  Although the red color isn't an official Poodle or Golden Retriever color, it is regularly conceived by mixing a darker-colored poodle with a normal-colored Golden Retriever.

Other common colors of a Goldendoodles include cream, black, and brown.  It is also possible to have a Parti-colored Goldendoodle.  This is when the Goldendoodle contains two different coat colors, with one of those colors being at least 50% white.

Goldendoodles also come in an array of coat types. Some can have curly or wavy coats, while others may have straight coats.  Depending on their coat type, some Goldendoodles will be less prone to shedding than others. While we can generally predict the coat type within the first few weeks, it is important to know that Goldendoodles' coats CAN change over time.

How large does a Standard Goldendoodle get?

The Standard Goldendoodle is the largest of the Goldendoodle breed.  On average, they can weigh between 50-90 pounds.  The males tend to be larger than the females.  When fully grown, they measure 20-26 inches from the floor to their shoulders.  They are a larger breed that typically becomes fully grown at 12-16 months.

Due to the size of this class of doodle, they will require more space.  The Goldendoodle is ideal for somebody who has ample space in the house, backyard, and/or a park nearby to play in.

Do you train the puppies?

The first 12 weeks of a puppy's life are vital for their growth and development.  Just like a child, their neurological development must be properly nurtured, and we refuse to waste valuable time!  For this reason, we implement two curriculums into our daily routines: PUPPY CULTURE and BAD ASS BREEDERS.

Puppy Culture is a socialization and training program specifically developed for puppies and used from birth through the end of their socialization period, with age appropriate protocols and lessons used daily.  Puppy Culture is a science-based and proven program to help puppies develop confidence and positive temperaments.

We also begin to work on the early stages of potty training and crate training.  It is normal to see some regression when puppies enter their new homes and learn new routines, but it is vital that new puppy parents have a plan in place to continue the training process.

Where are you located?

Our home is located in West Texas.  All of our doodles are considered members of our family and live with us inside of our home.   Our city borders New Mexico and Mexico.  We are one of the safest cities in the United States and enjoy going on leisurely walks with our pups when the weather is cool.
